In the early morning of September 28th, classes 7AC and 7BO, accompanied by Ms. Fröhlich and Mr. Lattacher, set off for Edinburgh. After an approximately one-hour flight, we landed in Frankfurt, where we stayed at the airport for a lunch break. At half past four, our flight to Edinburgh finally set off. The flight duration was about two and a half hours. When we landed, we were picked up by our tour guide, Sarah. Every group staying with host families got their own taxi. That was the end of our program for the day.
The next day, we met with our group and a tour guide in the city centre. She showed us our school, and after some time, we took a bus to St. Andrews. There, we had the opportunity to explore the university town, eat fish and chips, and do some shopping. Moreover, Sarah showed us the old cemetery. She taught us that, a long time ago, St. Andrews Cathedral stood there. This cathedral was the largest church in Scotland. She also said that there were numerous gravestones of people important to golf history, like Auchterlone and Hutchison. In addition, we stopped by the castle. There, we were allowed to go to the beach and explore the surroundings. After an hour, we walked to St. Andrews College, which was fascinating to see. Our meeting point was at 3 pm, after which we drove back to the city centre.
We took a break near some bridges, which are among the largest bridges on earth. Their names are the Queensferry Crossing Bridge, the Forth Road Bridge, and the red Forth Bridge.
The next day was our first day at the “Center of English Studies Edinburgh” school. Our lessons lasted about 4 to 5 hours. Before lunch, our coach told us what we would do in the afternoon. The break wasn’t that long. After some time, we met our tour guide and started our tour through Edinburgh. Unfortunately, it started to rain, which was quite disturbing because not everyone could hear the guide properly. The guide showed us the university and the old town. Edinburgh is divided into two halves: the old and the new town.
At 3 pm, the tour was over, but our day wasn’t – we visited an art gallery. At 5 pm, we were allowed to go and enjoy our free time.
The next morning, everything was the same as the day before – we went to school again. After lunch, we did a treasure hunt in a museum that our English teacher had prepared for us. It lasted about one and a half hours. After that, everyone had free time. We explored the old town since all our host families lived in the new town, where our school was also located.
In the evening, we went to a supermarket near our home. Surprisingly, there were cameras everywhere, which we found quite interesting.
The next day, after school, we went to Arthur’s Seat together, where we had a fascinating view of Edinburgh. Many of us were very tired and went to bed early because the hike was really exhausting but worth it.
On Thursday, we went to Portobello Beach, where we had lunch and enjoyed the beach. In the afternoon, we took part in a scavenger hunt, and we even talked to the locals.
On the last day, we had time to go shopping because, sadly, our trip to Edinburgh Castle wasn’t possible. Unfortunately, the time went by far too quickly, and we would have liked to have stayed a little longer. On October 5th, we started our journey back home.
A big thank you to Ms. Fröhlich and Mr. Lattacher for organizing and planning this amazing trip! We will remember the great moments of this language trip for a long time! Thank you!
